Justin Mason (47) B.Comm
Justin has been involved as an entrepreneur in the Sectional Title sector in numerous ways since the inception of the Act in 1982, having prior to his current activities:
- been the developer of numerous developments/schemes
- established numerous substantial property syndications, and
- invested substantially personally in sectional title properties
Latterly, Justin has assisted various banks - most notably Standard, ABSA, First Rand and Nedbank - with the development and implementation of the Joint Banks Sectional Title Training and Compliance Program. He has also been responsible for conducting extensive research on and the development of, the establishment and maintenance of a national Sectional Title database on behalf of the Banking Association of S.A.
Justin has participated and continues to participate in a number of groundbreaking advancements within the Sectional Title industry. These include his active participation within the National Association of Managing Agents (NAMA) where he remains instrumental in the funding and development of the association including the launch of a web portal which offers huge benefits to NAMA members and their body corporate clients. Other initiatives include his participation with Professor Graham Paddock, Professor Corne van der Merwe, and others, in various current and pending amendments to the Sectional Titles Act.
Mark Booysen (48) B.Comm, B.Acc, CA(SA)
Mark has some 22 years of banking, treasury, investment banking, structured and specialised finance, merchant banking and private equity business experience.
He has held executive management, treasury management, and financial management positions with Allied Bank (later ABSA), Rand Merchant Bank and numerous RMB group subsidiaries, as well as Barclays Bank plc’s Barclays Africa Merchant Bank unit.
He has had extensive financial and business consulting experience throughout numerous African countries establishing and managing international JV’s, M & A transactions, turnarounds, etc.
Jan Bicker Caarten (46) B.Comm, H.Dip.Acc, M.Comm, CA(SA)
Jan gained wide experience in commerce both in South Africa and the United Kingdom over many years, holding financial directorship positions in a number of industries.
He then worked in investment banking at Rand Merchant Bank for a number of years, becoming a specialist in the management and rehabilitation of underperforming debt positions held by the bank.
Upon leaving the banking industry, he set-up one of the first distressed debt and special opportunities funds in South Africa, having now over 10 years experience managing and investing proprietary and fund capital in special opportunities.
Trevor Payne (48)
Trevor has over 27 years business experience in senior management and board level roles within the information technology and financial services sectors.
He has some 20 years experience within the Old Mutual group’s global financial services businesses, as well as in the financial and business strategy consulting fields, including multi-year success with raising equity capital for the commercialisation of step-change technologies emanating from the UK Ministry of Defence and other British Public Sector Research Organisations.
Trevor holds a qualification in International Capital Markets from the Securities Institute of London.
